A practical comparison of Tokidoki Unicorno releases, including special editions and blind boxes, so you can pick the right figure for your shelf.
Quick answer
If you want a guaranteed, display-ready Tokidoki Unicorno, choose a special edition like the Beverage Besties Tropical Fizz or the Healthy Besties Tropical Kawaii figure. If you enjoy the surprise of unboxing and want to collect multiple designs, the Shaved Ice Dreams Unicorno Blind Box is the better fit. For a larger, limited companion piece, the Kurichan #5 figure offers a different scale and presence.
What separates these Tokidoki Unicorno releases
The main differences come down to packaging, edition type, and how you acquire the figure. Special editions are sold as individual, known characters, so you see exactly what you are buying. Blind boxes hide the character until you open it, which adds a game-like element but means you may get a duplicate if you buy more than one. Limited editions sit in between: they are specific characters, but only available while stock lasts, and some carry purchase limits.
How to compare Unicorno figures before you buy
Start by deciding whether you want a guaranteed character or the thrill of a random pull. Then check the listed height and edition details, because those affect display placement and long-term availability. Finally, consider price versus what you get: a single special edition may cost more than one blind box, but it removes the guesswork. If you plan to collect a full set, blind boxes are usually the only way to get every design in a series.
Special edition vs. blind box: the trade-offs
Special editions give you certainty and often come with themed packaging that looks good on a shelf. Blind boxes give you variety and a lower entry price per figure, but you cannot choose the character. Limited editions add scarcity, which can make them harder to find later, but they also tend to hold appeal for collectors who want a specific piece. There is no single best option; it depends on whether you value control or surprise.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Certainty vs. surprise: Special editions and limited figures show you the exact character; blind boxes hide it until you open one. Choose certainty if you want a specific look; choose surprise if you enjoy the unboxing moment.
- Price per figure vs. set building: A single blind box usually costs less than a special edition, but completing a set may require buying multiple boxes. Budget for duplicates if you chase a full series.
- Availability vs. scarcity: Limited editions and purchase-limited figures can sell out and may not restock, while standard special editions are generally easier to find. If a limited piece appeals to you, buy it when you see it rather than waiting.
