Compare the VAG 39 Butcher and the VAG 10th Anniversary Ookamikun on price, capsule format, and color options, then decide which fits your shelf or collection.
Quick answer
Choose the VAG 39 Butcher if you want a slightly lower-priced single figure with a specific color pick, or the Ookamikun VAG 10th Anniversary if you prefer a milestone-edition character and want to spend a little less per figure. Both are pick-your-color gachapon figures in original capsules, so the real trade-off is character style versus price per piece.
What actually differs between these two VAG figures
Both figures come from Medicom's Vinyl Artist Gacha line, which rotates Japanese vinyl artists into small gachapon figures sold in vending machines in Japan. The key difference for a buyer is that this store lets you pick the color instead of leaving it to a random gacha pull, so you can collect the exact variant you want.
The supplied catalog facts do not list figure height, material, or sculpt details for either release. That absence matters: if shelf scale is your deciding factor, treat both as small gachapon figures and confirm dimensions with the store before ordering rather than assuming a size.
Price and edition appeal: the main trade-off
The VAG 39 Butcher carries a catalog price of USD 5.25 against a comparison price of USD 7.95, while the Ookamikun VAG 10th Anniversary is listed at USD 4.93 against the same USD 7.95 comparison. The Ookamikun is the lower-cost single figure, but the Butcher sits close enough that the difference is small per piece.
The Ookamikun is tied to the VAG 10th Anniversary, which gives it milestone-edition appeal for collectors who follow the series timeline. The Butcher is a standard VAG 39 release, so its draw is the character and color choice rather than an anniversary label. Neither fact makes one figure rarer; the catalog does not state production numbers.
When buying a full set changes the math
Both products are available as a single figure of your chosen color or as a full set of all five colors. If you want a complete color run, the set option removes the guesswork and repeat buys that come with random gachapon pulls.
The trade-off is commitment: a full set costs more upfront than one figure, and it only makes sense if you actually display or trade all five colors. If you only want one character on your desk, a single pick keeps spending and shelf space down.
Trade-offs to weigh before you choose
- Price per single figure: The Ookamikun is listed at USD 4.93 and the Butcher at USD 5.25, both against a USD 7.95 comparison price. If you are buying several singles, the Ookamikun saves a little per piece; if you are buying one, the gap is minor. Decide whether you are buying one figure or several before letting price decide.
- Edition appeal versus standard release: Pick the Ookamikun if the VAG 10th Anniversary connection matters to your collection story. Pick the Butcher if you simply prefer the character and want a standard VAG 39 release.
- Single color versus full set: Both figures offer a single color of your choice or a set of all five colors. Choose the single if you want one display piece; choose the set only if you plan to keep or trade every color. A full set is a display commitment, not just a bulk discount.
- Size and scale: The catalog does not provide height or material for either figure, so do not assume they match other vinyl figures on your shelf. Confirm dimensions with the store if scale is critical.
Product facts at a glance
- VAG 39 — Butcher: VAG 39 Butcher is a Medicom Vinyl Artist Gacha figure sold as a single color of your choice or a full set of all five colors, and it comes in the original capsule. You can target the exact Butcher color you want instead of risking a random pull, and the capsule doubles as storage or display.
VAG 39 — Butcher - Ookamikun — VAG 10th Anniversary: Ookamikun is a VAG 10th Anniversary figure in the same gachapon format, available as a single color pick or a five-color set in the original capsule.
